Normal Heights Real Estate

Normal Heights is anything but Normal, and is actually named after what was historically known as a "Normal School", which was the predecessor to San Diego State University.  The building originally used for the Normal School is now home to the San Diego Unified School District offices.

Normal Heights homes for sale are generally styled from pre World War II era designs, but have been updated to modern standards.  The 2000's had a condo conversion craze where many apartment buildings were renovated, HOA's created, and now exist as small condo communities.  Normal Heights has a few distinct areas, including Kensington, Between Heights, and Adams North.

Kensington Real Estate

Kensington is perhaps the most upscale of the Normal Heights neighborhoods.  Located north of Adams Avenue, east of the 15 Freeway, south of the 8 Freeway, and west of Fairmount Avenue, this private community is comprised mostly of single family homes with mature landscaping throughout.   A large and classic road sign boldly announces to passing cars that one has entered this sought after area.

Between Heights Real Estate

This is more of a local's name for a neighborhood which is actually part of North Park.  Between Heights is located between the bridge on Adams Avenue reaching over Texas Street to the west, and bordered by the 805 Freeway on the east.  The neighborhood is named as such due to the location between Normal Heights and University Heights, which was the original site for San Diego State University.  Condos, single family homes for sale, and quality investment properties exist in this small neighborhood.

Adams North Real Estate

Adams North is named for the proximity to Adams Avenue, which is the major thoroughfare in Normal Heights.  Adams North homes for sale are somewhat similar to those in Kensington, but are generally less expensive feature a closer proximity to the commerce along Adams Avenue.  Like Between Heights, Adams North borders the edge of Mission Valley and homes situated in the right area can have wonderful views north, east, and west.

Normal Heights Overview

The area is host to a number of community events, including the Adams Avenue Street Fair, Adams Avenue Roots Festival, and Art Around Adams, just to name a few.  Additionally, Adams Avenue is home to some outstanding "character" pubs known to serve the finest craft beers, and a variety of restaurant choices, including Bleu Boheme, one of the finest and relaxed high end French restaurants in San Diego.

Normal Heights Schools

Normal Heights elementary school students are served by Adams Elementary School, Normal Heights Elementary School, and Franklin Elementary School.  Roosevelt Middle School serves 6th through 8th grade students and Hoover High School serves 9th through 12th graders.  All schools are part of the greater San Diego Unified School District.
