University City Real Estate

San Diego's University City is so named due do to the proximity to the University of California at San Diego.  In reality, UCSD is in north La Jolla, but students often find housing here due to slightly lower prices.  Needless to say, this area is prime for investment property as the strong rental demand by students dictate some of the lowest vacancy rates anywhere in San Diego. 

University City homes for sale differ depending on if you are in the northern or southern section of the community, which is divided through the middle by Rose Canyon Open Space.  North University City is mostly condos and townhomes and is the strong student rental area.  South University City is close to University City High School and offers a more traditional neighborhood feel with single family homes and a few condos and townhomes.  The southern portion is also home to a retirement community called Town Park Villas.

University City Overview

The San Diego neighborhood of University City is bordered on the west by the 5 Freeway, the east by the 805 Freeway, the north by Nobel Drive and La Jolla, and the south by Highway 52.  Due to the proximity of Rose Canyon Open Space and San Clemente Canyon, natural views and maintained open space have a meaningful impact the neighborhood's look and feel.

Many parks are located in and around town, including Doyle Community Park, Marion Bear Natural Memorial Park, and University Gardens Park.  University City Village Golf Course and the nearby Westfield UTC shopping mall are also popular local attractions. 

A number of local restaurants are in the area, with some of the best being Lorna's Italian Kitchen and Leucadian Pizzeria and Italian Kitchen.  Nearby in UTC more high end restaurants are available such as Donovan's Steak and Chop House and Harry's Bar and American Grill.

University City is located entirely in the 92122 zip code.

University City Schools

Three elementary schools exist in here, including Marie Curie Elementary School, Zeta O. Doyle Elementary School, and John D. Spreckles Elementary School.  Standley Middle School serves grades 6-8, and University City High School completes the area public school options.  All public schools are operated by the San Diego Unified School District.
